Teaching, Walking, Learning - at Antietam SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

During the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg), a few thousand Confederates had to hurry from Harper’s Ferry to Sharpsburg – 17 miles – in just a few hours so they could join the fight.  Well, we haven’t had to walk 17 miles yet, but everyone’s feet were hurting by the end of the day on Wednesday.  (Unlike some of the Confederates, we all seem to have shoes – that really helps.)  The themes for the trip are teaching, walking, and learning – and we had a full day of it at Antietam.  Because Dr. McPherson knows the details, we’re mixing some of the better-known sites with quite a few areas that I sense aren’t a part of the typical “main tour”.  He’s able to connect the dots for us and help everyone understand what all these places mean in context.

Sore feet, having fun.
